The Publicity Department of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee held a press conference on promoting Hunan's high-quality development on August 18.

Hunan has strengthened power supply capacity over the past decade, with an elevation from 19 million kW to 40 million kW, said Tang Jihong, director of the Hunan Provincial Energy Administration. Hunan is taking effective measures to ensure power supply amid the summer peak of electricity consumption.

In the past decade, Hunan's energy production capacity increased from 140 million tons of standard coal to 169 million tons. The electricity supply capacity rose from 19 million kW to 40 million kW. The installed power generation capacity grew from 32.79 million kW to 54.13 million kW. The volume of electricity transmitted from other domestic regions increased from 2.6 million kW to 8.5 million kW. The natural gas supply was up from 6 billion cubic meters to 12.5 billion cubic meters. These elevations have basically met the demand of economic and social development of Hunan Province.

The structure of energy consumption has been improved, showing a "four rises and one decline" trend: the shares of installed new energy power generation, non-hydro renewable energy power generation, non-fossil energy consumption, and electric energy in terminal energy consumption rose to 25.2%, 13.5%, 22.2%, and 18.4% respectively, while that of coal consumption declined from 60.8% to 54.8%.

The Nanchang-Changsha 1,000-kV UHV AC power transmission project has been completed and put into operation. A new inter-provincial cooperation mode represented by the "Ningxia Electric Power Serving Hunan" project, or "one line, one park, and one base" construction, is taking shape at an accelerated pace. Currently, the preliminary investigation for the "Xinjiang Electric Power Serving Hunan" project is ongoing, to further strategic cooperation with the centrally administered energy SOEs.
