The opening ceremony of serial activities of "Making New Great Changes in Countryside to Share New Development Opportunities of Dongting Lake" was held in Yiyang on August 14, 2022. Gu Shengzu, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association, attended and delivered a speech. He asked to strengthen regional planning, integration, and group development. It's important to actively integrate into the coordinated development strategy of the city clusters along the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and achieve leapfrog advancement with comprehensive collaboration and opening-up, to paint a new picture of the Dongting Lake Area.

Hu Zejun, deputy director of the Committee on Population, Resources, and Environment of the CPPCC National Committee; Du Yuxin, deputy director of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee; Sun Wei, chairman of the CPPCC Hubei Provincial Committee; and, Li Weiwei, chairwoman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee, attended.

Zhang Yingchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and vice governor of the People's Government of Hunan Province, made a speech. Yang Yuhua, vice chairwoman of the CPPCC Hubei Provincial Committee, and Huang Lanxiang, vice chairwoman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committ, attended.

The series of activities included the Joint Conference of the CPPCC Chairpersons of the Dongting Lake Ecological and Economic Zone, the 4th Green Agriculture Digital Village Internet Conference, and academicians and experts touring Yiyang. This aimed to further give full play to the role of the CPPCC; jointly promote President Xi's instruction of "protecting the Yangtze River"; and, coordinate all forces to form synergy for achieving fruitful results in countryside in the new era.

At the Yiyang Summit on "Green and Safe Co-construction of Dongting Lake Granary", Jingzhou City in Hubei Province, and Yueyang City, Changde City, Yiyang City, and Wangcheng District of Changsha City in Hunan Province signed the "Dongting Lake Ecological and Economic Zone Grain Industry Cooperation Alliance" Agreement. The Yiyang Municipal People's Government signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Hunan Association for Science and Technology.
