A variety of events celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) were held in Changsha on the evening of July 13. HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu delivered a video speech at the launching ceremony.
John Lee Ka-chiu expressed his gratitude to those who have long worked for Hong Kong's prosperity and stability and for exchanges and development between Hunan and Hong Kong. He said that over the past 25 years, with the full support of the motherland and the joint efforts of the HKSAR government and people from all walks of life in Hong Kong, the success of "one country, two systems" has won recognition throughout the world. Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland enjoy deep connections, and close economic and trade cooperation in particular. The next five years are crucial for Hong Kong to become more prosperous. The HKSAR government will be pragmatic in prospering the economy and improving people’s wellbeing, proactively integrate itself into the country's overall development, improve international competiveness, and unite Hong Kong people from all walks of life to open a new chapter.
Li Dianxun, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and executive vice governor of the People's Government of Hunan Province; and Mr. Franco Kwok, director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan, were present.
