Hunan's Industrial Firms Report Steady Profit Growth in First Five Months

According to data released by the Hunan Provincial Bureau of Statistics on July 7, from January to May, Hunan Province's industrial enterprises above designated size generated a revenue of more than 1.6 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.3%. These industrial firms made more than 83 billion yuan in total profits, registering a slight decline from the previous year.

In the past five months, 38 out of 39 industries achieved profits and 27 saw a year-on-year expansion in their profits. About 69.2% of industries saw their profits growth, 7.7 percentage points higher than the previous month. Among them, the three major industries of chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing; computer, communication and other electronic equipment manufacturing; and electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing have made outstanding contributions to the profit growth of industrial firms.

Among industrial enterprises above designated size in the province, state-owned enterprises achieved operating income of more than 111 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of more than 10%. These industrial firms had a total profits of 9.45 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.5%, and 13.9 percentage points higher than the growth rate of industrial enterprises above designated size.

Affected by various factors such as raw material prices, the cost pressure of some industries continued to increase in the first five months. The province's industrial enterprises above designed size had a combined operating cost of more than 1.3 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.7%. The cost per 100 yuan of operating income of industrial enterprises above designated size was 83.12 yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.03 yuan.
