On June 29, the research group of the Youth and Education Sociology Research Office of the Institute of Sociology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), together with Xiaohongshu, or Little Red Book, China Youth Daily and DT Finance, jointly released a report titled "Squatting in a City -- Insight into Young People's New Needs in Choosing Cities". Centering on the phenomenon of "squatting in cities", the report studies the new needs and criteria of young people in choosing cities to settle down.

A list of China's top 20 popular livable cities 2022 was unveiled. Changsha topped the list.

People choosing to "squat in cities" are mainly young people, who no longer just "seek survival", but pay more attention to the pursuit of quality life. Meanwhile, young people have given a new definition to a livable city, namely, "a city more suitable for them".

The report further noted that "post-materialism" choices are not the same as "lying down", and that young people are fulfilling their aspirations in their own way of life, and are responding to the call "In a vast world, much can be accomplished" with their "city choices".
