The 24th Annual Meeting of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) was unveiled in Changsha on the morning of June 26, 2022. It was co-hosted by CAST and the People's Government of Hunan Province. Wan Gang, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and president of CAST, delivered an opening speech. Zhang Qingwei, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, made a welcome speech. Zhang Yuzhuo, vice president and chief executive secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, presided over the meeting. Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of the People's Government of Hunan Province; Li Weiwei, chairwoman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee; and, Zhu Guoxian, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, attended.

With the theme of "Innovation-led self-reliance and self-strengthening, a new engine for the rise of the central region", the event consists of 35 activities in 5 sectors. They are: scientific and technological innovation to build a new development paradigm; "Innovation China" to assist the rise of central China; carbon peak and neutrality goals to lead green development; opening-up and coordination to build a talent hub; and, sci-tech cohesion and sharing to serve the people. More than 110 academicians and over 5,000 scientists, entrepreneurs, and people from all walks of life from home and abroad participated in the conference online and offline.

The attendees at the opening ceremony also included: relevant responsible comrades of CAST; provincial leaders Li Dianxun, Wu Guiying, Xie Weijiang, Liu Lianyu, Chen Fei, and Hu Xusheng; academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering and other experts and scholars; representatives of scientific and technological organizations, heads of scientific research institutes and universities, and representative entrepreneurs; and, officials of cities, prefecture, and relevant units directly under the provincial government. Zhou Ji, Yang Xuejun, Gao Hongjun, and He Qinghua made keynote speeches.
