This year marks the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and South Korea. A China-South Korea Cultural Exchange Year was jointly launched by both countries since last year.

A "2022 Hunan-South Korea Friendship City Exchange Week – Photography and Juvenile Painting Exhibition" opened at the Changsha Museum on June 10. The participators at the opening ceremony came from the Office of Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Wuhan, and Gyeongsangbuk-do of South Korea.

Various activities would be organized both online and offline during the event, including Hunan-South Korea photography exhibition, juvenile painting exhibition, college student Korean language contest, and Chinese board game "Go" competition. At the opening ceremony, the Changjun Riverside Middle School and the Gyeongju Girl's High School inked a sister-school agreement via video link. A video of friendship-city relations was played, presenting the interactions between Hunan's Zhangjiajie, Zhuzhou, and Yiyang and their South Korean counterpart cities.

After the opening ceremony, the attendees visited the photography and juvenile painting exhibition. A total of 70 paintings by the juveniles in Hunan Province and Gyeongsangbuk-do, and more than 170 photographs of both places were on display, showing the memorable moments of Hunan-South Korea friendly exchanges.

Hunan and South Korea have been enjoying deep historical connections. Kim Gu, founding father of South Korea, once lived at the Nanmuting on Chaozong Street, Changsha, which was the site of the Korean Provisional Government. In October 1998, Changsha City and Gyeongsangbuk-do’s Gumi City established friendship-city relations. After that, more and more friendship-city ties were knotted between the regions of Hunan Province and Gyeongsangbuk-do. There are five pairs of provincial- or city-level friendship regions: Hunan-Gyeongsangbuk; Changsha-Gumi; Zhuzhou-Pocheon; Yiyang-Namhae County; and, Zhangjiajie-Hadong County.
