According to the Hunan Provincial Tea Industry Work Conference held on May 28, Hunan has vigorously supported black tea industry and created a new growth point of "colorful Hunan tea". Green tea, black tea, dark tea, yellow tea, and white tea are all highlighted, supporting the dream of tea farmers to increase their income.

At present, the area of tea gardens in the province has reached 3.38 million mu (about 225,333 ha.). Last year, the province produced 322,800 tons of tea, with a comprehensive output value of 101.2 billion yuan.

The continuous prosperity of Hunan tea is inseparable from the drive of technology. A tea industry research team headed by Academician Liu Zhonghua has made unremitting efforts to tackle key problems in deep processing of tea, made breakthroughs in processing of "colorful Hunan tea", developed new products, and increased market share of Hunan tea. At present, the province has 8 tea innovation centers, 6 engineering technology centers, and more than 20 sci-tech promotion sites. Bao Xiaocun, chief expert of the Hunan provincial tea industry technology system, has led technical teams to main tea-producing counties to promote improved varieties and methods, impart tea-making skills, train tea farmers to do business in the market, and foster the overall competitive advantage of Hunan tea industry.

Efforts will be made to focus on brand building and promote Hunan tea domestically and internationally. Five provincial-level public brands of Xiaoxiang green tea, Hunan black tea, Anhua dark tea, Yueyang yellow tea, and Sangzhi white tea are promoted collaboratively, driving the main tea-producing areas to enter the market. There are 24 brands of Hunan Tea that have been awarded the "China Well-known Trademark".

Industrial chains will be energized to help tea farmers increase income. A Hunan tea industry cluster, mainly composed of national, provincial and municipal leading tea enterprises, is gradually taking shape. The Hunan provincial tea industry group has cooperated with bases, refined processing procedures, and expanded exports, and its sales volume and business volume have ranked first in the country for several consecutive years. Main tea-producing counties such as Changsha County, Shimen County, Xinhua County, and Yanling County rely on their tea industry to promote tea-tourism integration, which has effectively helped tea farmers increase income.
