A set of special stamps themed on the Dongting Lake was issued in Yueyang on May 28, 2022. A cultural tourism brochure of “Scroll Painting of the Dongting Lake in Yueyang, China” was published simultaneously. A series of cultural activities were launched on that day, including a Dongting Lake stamp exhibition and a “sending a postcard of beautiful Yueyang” event.

This set of special stamps, composed of four special stamps and one miniature sheet, were based on oil paintings of landmark landscapes around the Dongting Lake.

The four stamps respectively depict the beautiful scenery of the Junshan Island; the favorable ecological environment of wetland resort, including tower, water plants, and birds; the origin of rice planting in Chengtoushan Town, where the world’s earliest and best-preserved rice field and the prehistoric civilization of the Dongting Lake were located; and, the spectacular scenery of Sanjiangkou estuary where the Dongting Lake joins the Yangtze River.

The miniature sheet presents a wide angle view of the Dongting Lake, consisting of the Yueyang Tower, vast lake surface, and trees and hills around the lake. Profound cultural deposit and picturesque natural scenery are showcased.

An exhibition of the special stamps will be held in the cities around the Dongting Lake successively.
