Recently the Hunan Provincial Industry and Telecommunications Energy Conservation Supervision Center released a statistical monitoring report on energy consumption in Hunan Province’s six energy-intensive industries in the first quarter. According to the report, the comprehensive energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of output value of 146 major high energy-consuming enterprises in the province decreased by 15% year on year.

The report showed that in the first quarter, the total energy consumption of the province's 146 major high energy-consuming enterprises (whose comprehensive energy consumption is more than 10,000 tons of standard coal) reached more than 10 million tons of standard coal, a year-on-year increase of 1.48%. Due to the rising market of steel, petrochemical and chemical industries, 146 major energy-intensive enterprises achieved a total industrial output value of more than 92 billion yuan in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 19.39%. This led to a 15% year-on-year decrease in comprehensive energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of output value.

Some enterprises engaged in the steel, building materials, petrochemical and chemical industries in Hunan Province have taken the initiative to improve energy utilization efficiency. It is a response to the call of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and a move to adapt to the new situation of the total amount and intensity of energy consumption. The cement industry promotes the application of alternative fuel technology and uses biomass, waste tires and other fuels to replace part of the raw coal, which reduces emissions and saves production costs. In the first quarter, the average comprehensive energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of output value of 146 major high energy-consuming enterprises was 1.11 tons of standard coal per 10,000 yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 15%.

Green and low-carbon transformation is promoted through product structure adjustment. Some enterprises have gradually transformed their products into the ones with high added value and low energy consumption, and promoted refined and intelligent management. When the total energy consumption of the steel industry only increased by 4.27% year on year, the output value increased by 10.27% year on year, and the comprehensive energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of output value decreased by 10.28% year on year. The non-ferrous industry has carried out technical research on reducing power consumption in electrolysis production, and the output of qualified products has increased significantly.
