Online travel agency Tongcheng-eLong announced the top ten most popular museums in China on May 18, which marked the International Museum Day. Hunan Museum made the list.

Data shows that despite the resurgence of COVID-19 epidemic in many places in China in the first half of 2022, the number of tourists who booked museum tickets through Tongcheng-eLong was on par with the first half of 2021.

In terms of popularity, the Palace Museum, Nanjing Museum, Sanxingdui Museum, Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, Shaanxi History Museum, Hunan Museum, Henan Museum, Changjiang Civilization Museum (Wuhan Nature History Museum), Nanjing Imperial Examination Museum of China, and Jinsha Site Museum are the top ten most popular museums in China in the first half of 2022.

Parent-child travelers are the main visitors of the museums. The number of young tourists represented by those born between 1990 and 2009 has increased significantly. Consumption of those born between 1980 and 1999 accounted for the largest proportion at 39.7% and 35.8% respectively.
