On May 12, the Hunan Provincial Forest Chief Office announced the results of 2021 annual forest chief scheme work assessment. Changsha, Yueyang, Huaihua, and Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture were rated as excellent.

Hunan has implemented the forest chief scheme across the province since July 2021. It has established a five-level organizational system at the provincial, municipal, county, township, and village levels. The main leaders of the provincial Party committee and the provincial government serve as the general forest chiefs.

It was learned that such indicators as forest coverage, forest stock volume, grassland comprehensive vegetation coverage, and wetland protection rate are all included in the assessment. In addition to the above-mentioned three cities and one prefecture that were rated as excellent, Xiangtan, Yiyang, Changde, Shaoyang, and Hengyang were rated as good; while Yongzhou, Chenzhou, Zhangjiajie, Loudi, and Zhuzhou were rated as qualified.

The forest chief scheme has been fully implemented for nearly a year, and the annual goals and tasks have been completed. The five-level system has been fully established, the work mechanism and system have been perfected, and the grid-based management and protection system of forest and grass resource origins by “one chief and three members” has been basically established. In the future, Hunan Province will further promote the forest chief scheme in an in-depth and practical manner, striving to make it transfer from “comprehensive establishment” to “be completely effective”.
