Hunan's Foreign Trade Exceeds 165 Billion Yuan in First Four Months

Hunan's total imports and exports grew 2.2% year on year to more than 165 billion yuan in the first four months of 2022, according to the data from the Changsha Customs on May 12. Of the total, exports amounted to 111.59 billion yuan, up 3.5% year on year.

In April alone, the province's imports and exports expanded 6.4% year on year to 51.21 billion yuan. Exports rose 7.4% year on year to 36.62 billion yuan, while imports increased 4.1% to 14.59 billion yuan.

From January to April, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) remained the largest trading partner of Hunan, posting a trade volume of 33.08 billion yuan, up 37.7% year on year. The figure accounted for one third of the provincial total foreign trade volume. Trade between Hunan and the countries which have signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement expanded 13.7% year on year to 55.85 billion yuan. Hunan saw its trade with Belt and Road countries rose 27.3% to 55.65 billion yuan.

The province's private enterprises posted steady growth in imports and exports in the first four months. Foreign trade of private enterprises amounted to 127.57 billion yuan, accounting for 77% of the provincial total value of imports and exports.

In terms of exported goods, the export volume of mechanical and electrical products declined slightly, and that of labor-intensive products maintained robust growth. From January to April, exports of labor-intensive products increased 21.3% to 29.08 billion yuan. Exports of high-tech products rose 5.2% to 15.56 billion yuan. The major imports were high-tech products and mechanical and electrical products.
