On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese CYL, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and the All-China Youth Federation decided to award 30 individuals and 14 groups and organizations “May 4th Medals” in recognition of their outstanding performances. The move aimed to give full play to the exemplary role of model youths and inspire young people to make vigorous endeavors to forge ahead, to set the stage for the 20th CPC National Congress with outstanding achievements.

Long Bin, researcher of the Tunnel Boring Machine Research Institute and team leader of the Tunnel Boring Machine R&D and Operation Center of the China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation, and a research group of aluminum alloy strong rheology technology and equipment of the Central South University were among the recipients.

The May 4th Medal has been bestowed on exceptional individuals and entities since 1997 with the aim of inspiring the country's youth to embrace and preserve the May 4th Movement and encourage them to contribute to the development of the country.

The patriotic May 4th Movement was launched in 1919 by young Chinese students and intellectuals to fight imperialism and feudalism. Since 1949, the country has celebrated Chinese Youth Day on May 4.
