A demonstration sites construction work conference for intangible cultural heritage workshops, villages and towns, and neighborhoods was held in Xupu County, Huaihua City on April 29, 2022. It announced the start of the intangible cultural heritage demonstration sites construction.
Hunan's total amount of intangible cultural heritage resources ranked in the forefront nationwide. There are currently 166 provincial intangible cultural heritage workshops; 901 traditional Chinese villages, hometowns of Chinese folk art, and famous historical and cultural cities, towns and villages; and, more than 80 intangible cultural heritage markets and historical and art neighborhoods. Hunan province has been taking the lead in intangible cultural heritage promotion at campus, intangible cultural heritage-oriented poverty alleviation, construction of cultural and ecological protection areas, and many other fields in China.
The meeting arranged that the construction of the provincial intangible cultural heritage demonstration sites should follow the general principal of "leading through examples and implementation in a classified manner, independently-constructed by cities and prefecture and generally-promoted across the whole province, point-to-surface and multi-point layout, and, point-line linkage and driving development in a comprehensive way". Relying on existing resources of intangible cultural heritage workshops, villages and towns, and neighborhoods in cities and prefecture, it will select and establish:
- 20 provincial-level intangible cultural heritage workshop demonstration sites, which can promote employment, increase income, and help rural revitalization;
- 20 provincial-level intangible cultural heritage village and town demonstration sites with good sustainable intangible cultural heritage projects, reasonable protection and utilization, and rich traditional cultural connotations; and,
- 10 provincial-level intangible cultural heritage neighborhood demonstration sites with high concentration of intangible cultural heritage formats, in line with the development direction of cultural and tourism integration, and leading to large-scale cultural and tourism consumption.
The Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism awarded the plaques to the fifth batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage representative projects. The persons in charge of the culture and tourism authorities of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture and Huaihua City, Changsha Yuhua Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, Ji Tie, dean of the School of Design of Hunan University, and other outstanding representatives of intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritance, and experts and scholars shared advanced experience.
The 3rd Intangible Cultural Heritage Shopping Festival of Huaihua City will be held in Xupu County from April 30 to May 2, 2022.
