Hunan's Actual Use of Foreign Investment Up 165.8% in Q1

Hunan has achieved a good and stable start in investment attraction in the first quarter this year. The Hunan Department of Commerce unveiled on April 24 that, during the first quarter, Hunan Province had actually used foreign investment of 1.798 billion USD, ranking tenth nationwide and first in central China. The year-on-year growth reached 165.8%, ranking fifth nationwide and first in the central regions of China. 


Manufacturing and producer service industries performed notably in attracting foreign investment. In the first quarter, 167.31 million USD of foreign investment had been used in manufacturing related sectors, making a year-on-year increase of 305.4% which was 139 percentage points higher than the provincial average. In the producer service industry, nearly 1.4 billion USD of foreign investment had been used, growing by 213.4% over the previous year which was 47 percentage points higher than the average of the province. The foreign investment in manufacturing and producer service industries accounted for 86.2% of the total amount of the actually used foreign investment of the province. 


Changsha City, the capital city of Hunan Province, played a leading role in foreign investment utilization. The actually used foreign investment in Changsha reached 1.666 billion USD, taking up 92.6% of the province’s total. 


More than 80% of the foreign investment in Hunan Province were used in industrial parks. The actually used foreign investment in the industrial parks at or above the provincial level exceeded 1.5 billion USD, accounting for 83.5% of the province’s total. The growth rate was 212.3% over last year, which was 46 percentage points higher than the province’s average. 


Hong Kong remained a major source of investment. In the first quarter, the actually used investment from Hong Kong reached 1.7 billion USD, accounting for 94.8% of the province’s total and with a year-on-year growth of 173.58%.
