Hu Chunhua, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice premier of the State Council, inspected the spring-season agricultural activities in Yongzhou and Shaoyang, Hunan Province between April 13 and 15, 2022. He asked to thoroughly implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping's serial important speeches and instructions on ensuring food security; take strong and effective measures to improve agricultural production in spring season; and, actively carry out spring plowing and sowing and strengthen field management of summer grain, to lay a solid foundation for achieving the goal of stabilizing and increasing agricultural production throughout the year. 

Vice Premier Hu noted that Hunan Province is an important production area of rice, oilseeds, hogs, aquatic products, and other agricultural products in China, and it should stay vigilant on food security at all times. The province should give full play to its own advantages to strengthen social services such as centralized seedling-raising and breeding and agricultural production trusteeship, and support farmers in planting early-season rice to expand the area of double-season rice. He called for actively expanding the oil plants cultivation such as oil-seed camellia according to local conditions; effectively stabilizing hog production; promoting the quality and efficiency improvement of the aquaculture; and stepping up production and processing of vegetables, so as to make more contributions to ensuring national food security and the supply of important non-staple food.
 
He emphasized that agricultural time waits for no one, and the national spring agricultural production has entered the peak period. Efforts should be made to:
 
- Adhere to domestic production to ensure national food security;
 
- Organize and mobilize farmers to seize the agricultural season to carry out spring sowing;
 
- Ensure the supply of seeds and fertilizers and that the area of grain sowing in spring should keep growing;
 
- Do a good job in field management in spring season;
 
- Continue to consolidate the situation of seedlings;
 
- Focus on preventing the impact of pests and diseases and severe weather; and,
 
- Strive to win a bumper harvest of summer grain.
 
We should coordinate rural COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control with agricultural production in accordance with the arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council; ensure the normal operation of farmers returning to their hometowns for farming while consolidating the defense line of pandemic prevention and control in rural areas; guarantee smooth and orderly circulation and sufficient and timely supply of agricultural materials; and, keep up with the spring farming schedule to plant and manage the crops well, he added.
