On the morning of April 12, a China-Laos Railway return train eased into the Huaihua International Land Port Freight Yard in Hunan. This was the first China-Laos Railway return train from Vientiane, capital of Laos, to Huaihua. It was the first China-Laos Railway return train in central China. This marked that Hunan has become the first province in central China that provides two-way China-Laos train service.
The return train was loaded with 40 TEUs of cassava flour imported from Laos by a Hunan-based company, with a value of 3.2 million yuan. The freight train departed from Vientiane, Laos at 6:00 a.m. on April 7, entered China via Mohan Port in Yunnan Province, and arrived in Huaihua by way of Yunnan’s Kunming and Guizhou’s Liupanshui and Guiyang. The journey traversed 2,098 kilometers. "It takes about 5 days to import goods by the China-Laos Railway freight train, which saves more than 10 days compared to conventional river-sea or road-sea transportation channel. It has opened up a convenient 'golden channel' for us to carry out import and export trade in Southeast Asia," said Chen Rongzi, general manager of the company.
On January 6, the first Huaihua-Vientiane international freight train departed from Huaihua International Land Port. Up to now, four such freight trains have been launched.
