Hunan's Shaodong is one of China's eight largest suppliers of suitcases and bags. There are more than 2,000 suitcase and bag producers and related processors. They produce over 5,000 kinds in seven products, such as school bags, backpacks, and travel bags, which are sold to 89 countries and regions.
“Compared with conventional trailer-to-ship mode, the sea-rail combined transport service can save 43% costs in the land transport phase and minimize the effects of the pandemic on the transport plan and time,” said a suitcase and bag enterprise manager in Shaodong. In addition, the Hunan-Guangdong-Africa sea-rail combined transport service is about 12 days faster than the river-sea shipping mode.
The Hunan-Guangdong-Africa sea-rail combined transport service was initiated and promoted by the Hunan Department of Commerce and its port administration office. It is one of Hunan’s five major international logistics channels, with its center in Zhuzhou. It operates regular freight trains to and fro the port clusters in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and connects with the shipping lines from the port clusters in the area towards all around the world. With the partners’ self-supporting logistics network in Africa, this combined transport service will be extended to the countries in central Africa and further Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Middle East regions.
