Hunan Province has been making great efforts to build five major international logistics channels and assembly centers since 2021. Construction of the five channels is advancing on schedule and achieved initial success, according to the Office of Port of Entry and Exit of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government on March 14th.
The five major international logistics channels and assembly centers are:
-- an international logistics channel linking Europe and Central Asia through the China-Europe Railway Express, with Changsha as the assembly center;
-- a channel that helps transport goods from Hunan and central and western China to Yangtze River Delta port cluster through the river-sea combined transport service, with Yueyang as the assembly center;
-- the Hunan-Guangdong-Africa Rail-Sea Express, with Zhuzhou as the main assembly center and Hengyang as the sub-assembly center;
-- a channel to support the construction of the new western land-sea corridor, with Huaihua as the assembly center; and,
-- a channel to support common development of Zhangjiajie and Changde airports, with the Changsha Huanghua International Airport as the assembly center.
In 2021, Changsha handled more than 1,000 China-Europe Railway Express trains, ranking fourth nationwide. At present, the city has dealt with 200 such trains since this year.
Between January and February 2022, the container throughput at the Yueyang Chenglingji Port reached 110,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), an increase of 30% over 2021. In the future, the port will expand offshore direct routes and ocean routes to achieve a throughput of one million TEUs. Priority will be given to foreign and domestic trade. Supplies of goods from Yunnan and Guizhou provinces will also be introduced to the Yangtze River Delta.
The Hunan-Guangdong-Africa Rail-Sea Express is the first of its kind in China. So far, 15 train trips have been made since the service was launched in September 2021. In addition, special trains for ceramics are available in Zhuzhou and Liling for the Liling ceramics export industry. It is planned that 200 bidirectional trains will be put into service this year.
Hunan Province will focus on rail-sea combined transport to leverage Hunan’s favorable location on the transitional “belt” connecting the eastern coastal area with the central and western areas, and in the junction “zone” between the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Coastal Economic Belt.
The number of “Huaihua-Beibu Gulf Port” Rail-Sea Express freight trains hit 21 as of February 2022. The value of goods totaled 39 million yuan. Three trains are running between Huaihua and Vientiane since the China-Laos Railway was launched on January 6th, 2022.
Hunan Province strives to build an air cargo hub centering on the Changsha Huanghua International Airport. This year, the Changsha Huanghua International Airport has opened six regular cargo routes from January to February. As a result, in the next five years, the international and domestic cargo and mail throughput of the Changsha Huanghua International Airport will exceed one million tons.
