On the morning of March 15, the 2022 Hunan Canola Flower Festival opened in the 60,000-mu (4,000 ha.) flower fields in Shimeitang Town, Dingcheng District, Changde City. There are 5 sub-venues in Hengyang County, Chaling County, Wugang City, Junshan District, and Shuangfeng County. Zhang Yingchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and vice governor of Hunan Province, attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, the list of Hunan’s Top 10 most beautiful canola flower scenic spots in 2022 was released. They are:
- Shimeitang Town, Dingcheng District, Changde City;
- Liangxinbao Town, Junshan District, Yueyang City;
- Kuzongqiao Town, Hengyang County, Hengyang City;
- Zhitang Town, Chaling County, Zhuzhou City;
- Suoshi Town, Shuangfeng County, Loudi City;
- Dushan Village, Faxiangyan Neighborhood, Wugang County-level City, Shaoyang City;
- Chating Town, Wangcheng District, Changsha City;
- Shuangpo Town, Shuangpai County, Yongzhou City;
- Lanli Town, Mayang County, Huaihua City; and,
- Daxing Village, Shuangtang Neighborhood, Jishou City.

Dingcheng District signed a strategic cooperation agreement with 6 Hunan oil companies.
 
Canola is an important agricultural industry in Hunan Province, with an annual planting area of about 20 million mu (1.33 million ha.), ranking first nationwide. In recent years, the canola industry, combined with leisure agriculture and rural tourism, has become one of the key industries in provincial rural revitalization strategy. In 2021, driven by the provincial canola flower festival, a total of 38 districts and counties in the province held canola flower festivals, attracting 5.87 million tourists and realizing a comprehensive tourism income of 2.14 billion yuan.

The 2022 festival will last until early April. During the period, a series of activities such as Hunan Canola Production On-site Promotion Conference, Canola Machinery and Agricultural Technology Exhibition, Hunan Oil Processing Enterprise Products Exhibition, Gourmet Products Plus Agricultural and Sideline Products Exhibition, and Canola Flower Photography Contest will also be held.
