At the freight yard of Changsha North Station, staff was hoisting containers onto a freight train heading for Poland’s Malaszewicze port. These containers were loaded with anti-epidemic materials, daily necessities, home appliances, and auto parts. The train was scheduled to stop over in Russia, Republic of Belarus, and Poland. Meanwhile, the return train would carry European products back to China, to meet the needs of domestic consumers and manufacturing enterprises.
Fifteen China-Europe freight trains were handled during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday, a year-on-year increase of 34%, said Chen Hongsheng, deputy general manager of the Central South China International Inland Port Co., Ltd. Chen added that China-Europe freight trains service registered positive growth. A total of 146 trains were launched between January 1 and February 21, up 73%.
In recent years, China-Europe freight trains operated in Changsha have been developed with the comprehensive advantages of effectiveness and strong transportation capability. This has effectively guaranteed the smooth trading of Hunan’s imports and exports. In 2021, Changsha launched China-Europe freight train routes to Russia, Europe, and Central Asia. A total of 1,030 freight trains were handled, rising 94% from the same period of 2020. The cargoes were valued at 2.769 billion USD. The cumulative number of freight trains stood at the national forefront.
Freight train routes to Northern Europe and Vientiane of Laos will be open in 2022, to support the development of local companies, said Ye Hongbin, general manager of the Central South China International Inland Port Co., Ltd.
