The selected list of universities and disciplines, which will participate in China’s second round of construction plan of “Double First-Class” initiative, was announced on February 14, 2022.

There are 15 disciplines of 5 universities in Hunan Province on the list. They are:
- Mathematics of Xiangtan University;
- Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering of Hunan University;
- Mathematics, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Traffic & Transportation Engineering of Central South University;
- Foreign Languages and Literature of Hunan Normal University; and,
- Information and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Aerospace Science and Technology, Software Engineering, and Management Science and Engineering of National University of Defense Technology.

Compared with the first round list, Hunan Province has 1 new university, Xiangtan University, among the 7 newly-added universities nationwide, and 3 new disciplines, Mathematics of Xiangtan University, Electrical Engineering of Hunan University, and Traffic & Transportation Engineering of Central South University, on the list. The number of universities and disciplines of Hunan Province selected in this round ranked 8th in China.
