During the Spring Festival holiday this year, the supplies of commodities essential for livelihood in Changsha were sufficient, and their overall prices remained stable without abnormal fluctuations, according to the Changsha Municipal Development and Reform Commission on February 6.
On February 6, among Changsha's ten major categories of commodities essential for livelihood, the prices of five categories rose, and the prices of other categories kept unchanged compared with a normal period before the festival (January 30th, the same below). Except for vegetables and fruits whose average retail prices saw a relatively sharp rise due to market demand, the prices of other commodities fluctuated by around 1%.
Compared with the same period last year, the average retail prices of meat, vegetables and fruits fell, while the prices of aquatic products and eggs rose. The prices of other commodities fluctuated slightly. Specifically, the average retail price of meat dropped 13.68% year on year. Among them, the average retail price of pork fell 39.80%. The average retail price of vegetables was down 1.23%, that of fruits down 2.20%, that of eggs up 4.55%, and that of aquatic products up 7.03%, respectively. The prices of grain, oil and other commodities were basically stable.
After the Spring Festival holiday, major wholesale markets, chain supermarkets, and farmers’ markets gradually resumed normal operation; the supplies of various commodities essential for livelihood increased; the consumption of meat and other commodities entered the traditional off-peak season as the demand decreased compared with the holiday period; and, the market supply and demand was relatively balanced. It is expected that overall market prices will be kept within a reasonable range in the following days to come.
