Hunan Activates Level-Ⅳ Emergency Response to Freezing

The Hunan Commission for Disaster Reduction and the Hunan Department of Emergency Management decided to activate a Level-Ⅳ emergency response to the freezing weather or snowstorms at 15:00 on February 6, 2022. The decision was made based on current weather forecast and situation and the Emergency Response Plan for Freezing Weather or Snowstorms of Hunan Province (for Trial Implementation).

The main period in response to freezing weather or snowstorms is between February 6 and 8. The main areas are Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Zhangjiajie, Changde, Yiyang, Yueyang, Huaihua, Loudi, Shaoyang, Changsha, and Xiangtan. The main industries prone to be impacted are transport, electricity, housing and rural-urban development, and agriculture.

The Hunan Commission for Disaster Reduction and the Hunan Department of Emergency Management pointed out that this round of freezing weather or snowstorms coincides with Spring Festival return-trip rush. Departments at all levels must attach great importance to it, strengthen consultation and evaluation, and ensure responsibilities are fulfilled to prevent risks, minimize losses, and guarantee people’s production and living, and social stability.
