A symposium on the development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in Hunan Province was held in Changsha on January 27, 2022. Zhang Qingwei, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress, attended and delivered a speech. He called for studying and implementing the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important speech made at the third symposium on the development of the BRI in Beijing on Nov 19, 2021. He asked all to take the BRI development as a major focus and great opportunity for Hunan’s opening up; raise awareness, unify thinking, and improve self-development; and, strive to develop itself into a hub of reform and opening up in inland regions. Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, presided over the meeting.

The meeting was held via video link, and the sub-venues were set up in each city and prefecture across Hunan Province. Provincial leaders Li Dianxun, Wu Guiying, Xie Weijiang, Zhang Yingchun, and He Baoxiang were present at the main or sub-venues respectively. Representatives from the Development and Reform Commission of Hunan Province, Changsha City, Yueyang City, Hunan Zhongnan International Land Port Co., Ltd., and Sany Group respectively made reports.

Secretary Zhang noted that in recent years, Hunan Province has carried forward the spirits of President Xi Jinping’s important speeches, directives, and instructions on promoting the BRI construction, and continued to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with countries along the BRI route. Hunan has opened up to the world in an all-round way; its international platforms have been continuously improved, foreign trade grown rapidly, people-to-people and cultural exchanges become closer, and integration into the BRI development achieved positive results, he added.
