It was reported on January 26 that, in 2021, Changsha's outward foreign direct investment (FDI) in actual use totaled 1.465 billion US dollars, accounting for 92.2% of the province's total and ranking first among capital cities in central China. The city's per capita outward FDI ranked first in the province. There were 31 new enterprises established abroad, involving industries such as electronic equipment manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and service.

In recent years, Changsha has taken multiple measures to promote “going global” with high-quality performance. Last year, the city issued a three-year (2021-2023) action plan to advance "going global" with high-quality performance from the aspects of providing good platform services, focusing on key countries and regions, and facilitating the global distribution of competitive production capacity.

Meanwhile, Changsha took the initiative to optimize the “Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Special Zone” (Changsha) of the “Hunan Enterprises Going Global+” Comprehensive Service Platform. Columns for the free trade zone and economic and trade cooperation with Africa have been built and the English website has been launched simultaneously, to facilitate Hunan enterprises to “go global”.
