Huaihua Joins Inter-provincial Consultation and Cooperation Mechanism for New Western Land-sea Corridor

The National Reform and Development Commission on January 21 approved Huaihua for joining the inter-provincial consultation and cooperation mechanism of China’s new western land-sea corridor plan. It recognized Huaihua as a key point on the eastern corridor of China’s new western land-sea corridor. Strengthening the cooperation between Huaihua and other regions along the corridor will help boost integration and upgrading of transportation, logistics, commerce, and industry, give play to the driving force of the corridor, and enhance its development and competitiveness.

The corridor, called the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, connects major inland cities in southwestern China, such as Chongqing Municipality and Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, with coastal and border cities in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Cargo from inland China can be transported to the border and then shipped to ASEAN economies and then on to other parts of the world. Imports can also use the route to enter China.

In August 2019, the State Council designated the National Development and Reform Commission to take the leading role in constructing an inter-provincial joint conference mechanism. Chongqing was designated as the logistics and operation center of the corridor, and to lead the establishment of an inter-provincial consultation and cooperation mechanism.
