The Peking University (PKU), the Changsha Municipal People's Government, and the Changsha National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Changsha High-tech Zone) Management Committee signed a cooperation agreement in Beijing on January 14, to jointly construct the Institute of Computing and Digital Economy, PKU. Zhang Pingwen, vice president of PKU, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC PKU Committee, and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the signing ceremony. Zheng Jianxin, deputy secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee and mayor of Changsha; and, Qiu Jixing, vice mayor of Changsha, also attended.

Changsha is adhering to the strategic positioning and missions of the “Three Hubs and Four New Missions” Strategy, and accelerating the building of a national sci-tech innovation center. As a world-class university, PKU has strong scientific research strength and abundant educational resources. Jointly constructing the Institute of Computing and Digital Economy, PKU is a major measure to fully implement the Agreement on Deepening Comprehensive Cooperation Between PKU and Changsha Municipal People's Government. It is part of Changsha’s efforts to accelerate the construction of ten major sci-tech innovation landmark projects. It is also an important driving force for gathering, building, and improving the technology chain, innovation chain, and talent chain in Changsha’s advanced computing industry, and accelerating the high-quality industrial development. The signing of the agreement has introduced a major innovation platform for Changsha, and made a “good start” in the cooperation with famous domestic universities this year.

In the next step, Changsha will rely on its first-class innovation ecology and scientific research environment; give full play to the discipline advantages of PKU; gather high-quality resources of PKU; and, make solid efforts to carry out the construction tasks of the Institute of Computing and Digital Economy, PKU in the aspects of making innovative technological breakthroughs, cultivating innovative talents and transforming innovative achievements. These efforts will help build the institute into an innovative platform with international influence and leading the country in the innovative technology research and industrial development of computing and digital economy.
