The Hunan Typical 5G Application Scenarios Exhibition Week kicked off on January 12. The inauguration ceremony of the Yuelu Mountain University Science and Technology Town 5G Acceleration Port was held simultaneously. Xiong Chen, chief economist of the Hunan Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology and member of its leading Party members group, attended. Kan Baoyong, deputy secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee and director of the Yuelu Mountain University Science and Technology Town Promotion Committee, announced the operation of the 5G Acceleration Port.
5G is an important foundation for a new round of scientific and industrial revolution. In 2021, there were 56,000 5G base stations built in Hunan, with the 5G network covering main urban areas of the province’s 13 cities and 1 prefecture, as well as main urban areas of all its county-level administrative districts. The province gathered nearly 30 backbone enterprises each worth more than 100 million yuan in the field of 5G product manufacturing. The scale of 5G core industries including communication service and equipment manufacturing exceeded 100 billion yuan.
The 5G Acceleration Port is the first project of the Yuelu Mountain University Science and Technology Town to develop 5G application industries, as well as an important platform to support and develop 5G technology-based applications and build a 5G industrial ecology. To date, 56 enterprises in such fields as 5G plus big data, artificial intelligence, finance, and environmental protection, have settled in the 5G Acceleration Port.
A list of 30 institutions approved to be included in the 2021 Hunan Typical 5G Application Scenarios was released, and 10 institutions were awarded plaques. The Yuelu Mountain University Science and Technology Town and 6 enterprises including China Mobile and Huawei signed an agreement to cooperate on a 5G project. Seven units including the CEC Industrial Internet Co., Ltd. and the Research Institute of China United Network Communications Limited signed a contract on the “5G+ Industrial Internet Application Joint Laboratory”.
