The Laba Festival, falling on the 8th day of the
12th month on the Lunar Calendar, is a traditional Chinese festival
worshiping harvest and marking the start of the Chinese New Year
celebrations. The day is commonly celebrated by cooking and eating
hodgepodge congee made of various components to pray for a good harvest
and good fortune.
According to a notice of the General Office of the State Council, the 2022 Spring Festival holiday will last from January 31 (Monday) to February 6 (Sunday). In the meantime, January 29 (Saturday) and January 30 (Sunday) are swapped with the weekdays next to the actual holiday to create a longer vacation period.
