An examination and appraisal meeting for the completion of the Centian River Reservoir expansion project was held by the Ministry of Water Resources and the Hunan Provincial People’s Government in Jianghua Yao Autonomous County on that day. The project passed the examination and appraisal. This marked that the project would officially turn from construction to operation stage.

It is a key project of the Xiaoshui River development, a No.1 project of Hunan’s water conservancy construction project, and also one of the 172 important water conservancy projects designated by the State Council. The construction of the project began in March 2012, and was completed in August 2018. 

The reservoir has multiple functions including irrigation, flood control, providing water for the lower reaches, and power generation. It is of great significance for Hunan’s comprehensive utilization of water resource in the Xiangjiang River, and the sustainable economic and social development in Yongzhou and the areas along the middle and lower reaches of the Xiangjiang River.
