The 15,000-mu construction land for the Changsha Huanghua International Airport renovation and expansion project has been approved by the State Council recently, the Hunan Provincial Department of Natural Resources said on November 23. The relevant land will be delivered in due course according to the airport construction needs. The project has thus begun on all fronts.

The Changsha airport renovation and expansion project has been approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources in March this year, with 2,660 mu of land available for advance use, including 2,569 mu of terminal area use and 91 mu of airfield use. The Hunan Provincial Department of Natural Resources obtained the approval of land use for the project nearly 40 days in advance. This provided strong support for the smooth commencement of the project’s main body construction. To ensure smooth approval of the project, the department arranged special work team to follow the progress of land application and approval.

The project is located on the east side of the runway of Changsha Huanghua International Airport Terminal 2. It is Hunan's single infrastructure project with the largest investment since the reform and opening-up. Covering an area of about 15,000 mu, it is expected to handle 60 million visits and 600,000 tons of cargo annually. Upon completion and operation, the airport will have 3 runways and 3 terminals, and its comprehensive capacity and service level will be improved. It will become a comprehensive transportation hub integrating high-speed rail, subway, maglev, and highway.
