Changsha Attends 2021 Global Mayors' Forum Series Activities

The 2021 Global Mayors' Forum series activities were held both online and offline in Guangzhou from November 8 to 13. Activities included the forum, the 13th World Congress of the World Metropolis Association, and the Award Ceremony of the 5th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation (the “Guangzhou Award”). They were co-sponsored by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government, the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), and the World Metropolis Association.

The plenary session of the 2021 Global Mayors' Forum was held on November 11 evening. Ma Biao, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, sent a video message. Lin Songtian, president of the CPAFFC; Zhang Xin, vice governor of Guangdong Province; Wen Guohui, mayor of Guangzhou and president of the World Metropolis Association; and, Emilia Saiz, secretary general of the UCLG delivered speeches at the conference. Zhong Nanshan, recipient of the Medal of the Republic and an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a speech on China's fight against COVID-19.

The 5th “Guangzhou Award” award ceremony, and the closing ceremony of the 2021 Global Mayors' Forum and the 13th World Congress of the World Association of Metropolis were held on November 12 evening. Chongqing, China; Union of Dannieh Municipalities, Lebanon; Quito, Ecuador; Vienna, Austria; and Saint Louis, Senegal won the 5th “Guangzhou Award”. Odisha, India claimed the honor of the “Online Popular City”.


Kong Yiping, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee; and Liu Fang, director of the Office of the Changsha People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, attended online.
