On November 16, Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, chaired a meeting to listen to the report on Yuelu Mountain Laboratory construction plan.
Provincial leaders Xie Jianhui, Sui Zhongcheng, Chen Fei; Deng Qunce, general secretary of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government; and, Yin Yulong, Zou Xuexiao, Liu Shaojun, and Liu Zhonghua, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended.
After listening to the report on the preliminary work of the construction of the Yuelu Mountain Laboratory, Mao Weiming pointed out that the construction of the Yuelu Mountain Laboratory is an important and landmark achievement of the implementation of the Three Highlands and Four New Mission Strategy. It is a critical element for Hunan Seed Industry to move on toward a higher level, and it is the political responsibility of Hunan to promote the vitalization of the seed industry and food security. As a major agricultural province, Hunan is capable of contributing to the development of the seed industry. The province has a foundation, advantages, achievements, and brands. It is home to more than 30,000 crop germplasm resources, has a group of academicians in related fields, and masters internationally-advanced key technologies in rice breeding, chili hybrid seed production, and fish breeding. Leading companies such as Yuan Longping High-Tech Agriculture Co., Ltd. and Huazhi Biotech Co., Ltd. take the lead in the country, and the province’s commercial breeding of rice and corn ranks first in China.
