On November 8 local time in Turkey, a metro train customized by the CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. for Turkey began a trial run along the New Airport Metro Line in Istanbul.
“It is a record speed of Turkey’s metro trains,” said Adil Karaismailolu, Turkey's transport and infrastructure minister, when the train speed reached 120.75 km/hour. He was there to experience the trial run.
Istanbul is a worldly famous travel destination, and the largest city of Turkey. The New Airport Metro Line links Istanbul’s new airport and the downtown area, handling more than 600,000 international passenger trips every day. The CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive contracted with Turkey’s Transport and Infrastructure Ministry for an order of Istanbul metro trains last January. The train is composed of 4 carriages, with a design speed of 120 km per hour. As required, 60% of the trains were produced locally. Despite the pandemic and other difficulties, the CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive accomplished research and production of the metro trains in only six months.
During the 30-km trial run, this China-made metro train performed excellently in stability, high speed, high efficiency, and comfort. It will be put into official operation in the first quarter in 2022.
