The annual National Science and Technology Award Conference was held in Beijing on November 3, 2021. Fifteen projects undertaken or participated by Hunan’s research institutions won prizes of all of the three award categories.
Nine projects undertaken by Hunan-based institutions were honored, covering biology, chemistry, and geology disciplines and being applied in such fields as electrical engineering, medical care, and agricultural products. Among the six projects participated by Hunan-based institutions, one won first prize, and five won second prizes, of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award. These honors showcased Hunan’s advances made in sci-tech exchange and cooperation.
The honored projects undertaken by Hunan-based institutions covered all of the three award categories.
The fluorescence probe performance control and bioimaging application research project, undertaken by Hunan University, won second prize of the State Natural Science Award.
The project on key technology and application of intelligent control and collaborative optimization in zinc smelting process, undertaken by Central South University, won second prize of the State Technological Invention Award.
The project on key technology and application of herbicide-resistance management for major weeds in grain crops, undertaken by the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and other 6 projects, won second prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
National University of Defense Technology, Hunan University, and Central South University, Hunan’s major cradles of sci-tech innovations, were biggest winners.
In addition to the project winning the natural award, all other projects were based on cooperation of industries, universities and research institutes. They have provided great supports for high-quality development of related industries and sectors.
In recent years, Hunan has firmly abolished overemphasis on the number of papers and professional titles, or academic backgrounds and research projects, constantly optimized incentive evaluation mechanism, and strengthened supervision of evaluation process with traceable management. The credibility and authority of sci-tech incentives has been improved.
All of the honored projects this time had won first prize of Hunan’s provincial science and technology award. While carrying on a further research, most of them have gained supports of provincial sci-tech programs, such as the Hunan Provincial Natural Foundation.
