Electricity consumption is an indicator of economic development. The Hunan Statistics Bureau released the latest data on October 26 that, in the first three quarters, the electricity consumption of Hunan’s primary, secondary, and tertiary industry increased by 21.9%, 15.2%, and 21% year on year respectively. The stable and sound development of industries provides a great support for the rapid growth of electricity consumption for industrial use.
This year, achievements in poverty elimination have been consolidated, rural revitalization strategy has been implemented vigorously, and supply-side structural reform in the agricultural sector has been pushed thoroughly. These have jointly given an impetus to Hunan’s agricultural development. The added value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery sectors in the first three quarters grew by 9.1% over the same period of last year, 1.4 percentage points higher than that in the first half. Early rice and summer grain output increased by 3.5% and 4.7% respectively, laying a foundation for annual grain harvest. A total of 382 featured vegetable plantations were shortlisted for suppliers for the “vegetable basket program” of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which has driven Hunan’s vegetable production with a growth rate of 3.8%. The amount of pig slaughter and inventory got back to normal level, up 36.3% and 19.8% respectively.
In October, 831 key projects were simultaneously launched and 678 project completed, in 13 cities and one prefecture around the province. In accordance with the Three Highlands and Four New Missions Strategy, Hunan will strive to build a national highland, or hub, of advanced manufacturing, and push forward upgrades of industry. In the first three quarters, the production of carbon fiber and its composite materials, microcomputers equipment, integrated circuit, lithium ion battery, and optical fiber respectively increased by 1270%, 120%, 83.2%, 57.4%, and 50.2%. In addition to the traditional advantages in construction machinery sector, Hunan’s advanced manufacturing presented a good momentum of all-round development. Key zones, industrial parks, industrial sectors, and enterprises have full played their support roles for stabilizing growth. Supply and industrial chains have been strengthened to further accelerate development of industrial clusters. The added value of secondary industry achieved an 8.2% year-on-year increase, 5 percentage points faster than that in the first half.
The achievements of anti-epidemic endeavors and economic and social development have been consolidated and expanded. This year, Hunan’s service industry has shown a trend of recovery. Between January and August, service businesses over designated size realized a 91.2% growth. Transportation revenue in air, road, and multimodal transport and freight agent services grew by more than 30%. Software and information technology, commercial, and people’s livelihood services grew by more than 27%. Service sectors got revitalized, which has driven the development of tertiary industry, with an added value growth of 9.3%, 7.4 percentage points higher than that in the first half.
