The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Evaluation Studies (CASSES) recently publicized a list of the 2021 China's Top 100 Commodity Trading Markets. Hunan had five markets on the list – Gaoqiao Grand Market, ranking 4th; Hongxing (Red Star) Agricultural and Sideline Product Market, ranking 23rd; Wantian International Building Materials Trade and Logistics Park, ranking 26th; Hunan Rolled Steel Market, ranking 33rd; and, Huangxing Haijixing International Agricultural Product Logistics Park, ranking 72nd. All these five markets are located in Changsha.

The list was based on a nationwide survey, while taking into account a comprehensive assessment from the perspectives of hard and soft infrastructure; service awareness, capacity, and level; and, such indicators as market size, managers, revenue, and profit. Regionally, Zhejiang province is most active in commodity market trade, with 33 markets on the list. Shandong and Jiangsu provinces follow it, with 18 shortlisted markets each. Hunan takes the lead in central China, with 5 markets making the list, the same as that of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

There are 318 commodity trading markets and 211 farmers' markets in Changsha, covering agricultural and sideline products, daily necessities, clothing, building materials, and food. "Being added to the shortlist, the five markets present Changsha's achievements in improving the quality and expanding the scale of consumption, and promoting brand development of commodity trading markets", said a commodity trading managers of the Changsha Administration for Market Regulation.

The Hunan Gaoqiao Grand Market ranked 10th in the list of 2019, and leaped to 4th this year. Taking the opportunity of being approved as a pilot for marketing purchase trade and included in the Hunan Pilot Free Trade Zone, it has been transformed from a traditional domestic trade market to a leading zone for "dual-circulation" development. During the four-day 2nd China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo which was concluded lately, 37 pavilions of African countries in the market had received about 20,000 purchasers and 57,000 visits. The sales at the pavilions reached 29.7 million yuan, and orders worth nearly 6.5 billion yuan were contracted.
