On the afternoon of October 19, Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, met in Changsha with Graham Fletcher, Australia’s Ambassador to China, and other envoys to China and representatives of international organizations. They came to Hunan to attend the first Global Economic Development and Security Forum (GEDS) of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA).
Provincial leaders Wu Lan, Wu Guiying, and Xie Weijiang; Gabit Koishybayev, ambassador of Kazakhstan to China; Tuvshin Badral, Mongolian ambassador to China; Marcos Troyjo, president of New Development Bank; Tamas Hajba, senior advisor of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development; Chang-hee Lee, director of the International Labour Organization Country Office for China and Mongolia; Pierre Krähenbühl, personal envoy of the president of International Committee of the Red Cross for China; and, Gwendolyn Tan Pang, spokeswoman for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in China, attended.
Governor Mao welcomed the guests and briefed the guests on basic conditions of Hunan Province. He remarked that Hunan is the hometown of great people, marshals, and generals, with beautiful mountains and rivers and rich in humanities. In recent years, it has seized the major historic opportunities brought by President Xi Jinping’s inspection tour to Hunan and the promotion of high-quality development in central China in the new era; implemented the Three Highlands and Four New Missions Strategy; and, strived to build a modern new Hunan. The provincial economic and social development has maintained overall stability and moved forward with better performance.
He stated that development requires a stable, security environment. Hunan will always pursue a holistic approach to national security; put emphasis on both development and security; take sound development as its top priority, ensure economic security, keep ecological security, maintain social security and stability, and create a stable and orderly environment for the provincial high-quality development. He expected all envoys to China and representatives of international organizations to better play their roles as bridges and bonds, deepen pragmatic cooperation with Hunan in various fields, and better benefit the people and regional development and prosperity.
Graham Fletcher, Tuvshin Badral, and other envoys to China congratulated Hunan on its achievements in overall development and security. They expressed their willingness to take this forum as an opportunity to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with Hunan, jointly deal with the risks, hidden dangers and non-traditional security challenges faced by economic development, and jointly promote the sustainable development of the world economy.
