On the afternoon of October 13, Xu Dazhe, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress, had a discussion with Zhuang Guotai, secretary of the CPC Leadership Group and director of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), and his party in Changsha.

Vice Governor Chen Wenhao attended.

Secretary Xu thanked CMA for its long-term care and support to Hunan Province. He said that in recent years, Hunan’s economic and social development has maintained steady and vigorous progress. The whole province, in accordance with the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important speech made when inspecting Hunan, has built consensus and formed strong synergy to implement the Three Highlands and Four New Missions Strategy. We are now accelerating turning the grand blueprint drawn by General Secretary Xi Jinping for Hunan into reality.

He believed that meteorology is closely related to the two major events of development and safety, and to the people's sense of happiness and security. The construction of a modern new Hunan cannot be separated from the service guarantee of meteorology. Hunan's meteorological cause has made great progress in recent years, and has played an important role in rural revitalization, power supply, transportation, and ecological environmental protection, especially in response to the flood prevention, drought relief, and disaster prevention and mitigation. He expected CMA to continue to deepen communication and cooperation with Hunan; promote the reform and development of Hunan's meteorological industry to a new level; and, add impetus to the high-quality development of Hunan with high-quality meteorological efforts.

Director Zhuang remarked that Hunan's meteorological modernization has achieved fruitful results in recent years, thanks to the great attention and strong support of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the People’s Government of Hunan Province. CMA will thoroughly implement President Xi’s important instructions for meteorological work; focus on serving the implementation of major national strategies and local economic and social development; give full play to its advantages in science and technology and talents; and, deepen pragmatic collaboration with Hunan in such areas as meteorological disaster monitoring and early warning, climate resource utilization, and meteorological station infrastructure construction, to make greater contributions to the building of a modern new Hunan.
