The photo, taken on October 7, shows farmers operating rotary cultivators in the fields at Dongsheng Village, Zhongshan Neighborhood, Xintian County. The village is one of the first batch of vegetable bases for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It produces more than 10,000 tons of various vegetables such as Chinese cabbage, Chinese kale, bean sprouts, and cabbage moss.

Cold Dew, the 17th solar term on Chinese lunar calendar, falls on October 8 this year. Farmers are busy with farm work in the fields, including ploughing, transplanting vegetable seedlings, weeding, and fertilizing. (Photo/ Zhong Weifeng)

Background information:

Cold Dew, known as "Hanlu" in Chinese, signifies the official end of autumn, when the dawn awakens with a wet land, and dewdrops glisten over leaves and flowers. During this period, temperatures drop far below the earlier White Dew, and surface dew now condenses to frost, a harbinger of winter's impending arrival.

As trees and grasses turn yellow, pomegranates, hawthorns, crabs and other delicious foods are served on Chinese people's dinner tables.
