On September the 18th, a conference for volunteer mobilization, training, and handover issues for the Second China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) was held in Changsha. More than 650 recently trained young volunteers will be on duty starting on September the 23rd.

The CAETE Organizing Committee began recruiting volunteers as early as the beginning of this April, to help filter those who will do the job well in both service and reception whilst showing Hunan’s new image. Finally, volunteers were selected from more than 2,000 applicants from 16 universities and vocational colleges, including Hunan Normal University, Central South University of Forestry and Technology, Central South University, Xiangtan University, and Hunan International Business Vocational College.

Tan Jie, the person in charge of volunteer selection and management, introduced that many volunteers are winners of national simultaneous interpretation and translation competitions. They can provide services in 6 languages including Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Arabic to guests from all over the world. It is worth mentioning that this is Hunan’s first recruitment of Arabic volunteers in an international exhibition.

The volunteers’ clothing is blue, made of environmentally friendly fabrics, and well ventilated. This group of “blue angels” has received training on etiquette concerning foreign affairs and other aspects. Compared with the previous session, the organizing committee has put forward higher and stricter requirements for them and strives to let the world see the new look of Hunan youth.

Besides the “blue angels”, there will be a team of “white angels” who are doctors from the People's Hospital of Hunan Province. During the expo, they will stay on-site throughout the whole process to prevent and control the epidemic, and provide medical services such as emergency rescue for guests and audiences at the expo.
