On September 14, Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, inspected Yuelu Mountain University Science and Technology Town and Hunan Xiangjiang New Area. He asked to study and implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important speech made when inspecting Hunan; give priority to innovation and talent; achieve meticulous planning, exquisite construction, and smart growth; promote the high-quality development of Xiangjiang New Area and Yuelu Mountain University Science and Technology Town; and, strive to build the main base for carrying out the Three Highlands and Four New Missions Strategy.

Provincial leaders Xie Jianhui, Wu Guiying, and Chen Fei; Tian Hongqi, president of the Central South University; and, Deng Qunce, secretary general of the People’s Government of Hunan Province, attended.

The Yuelu Mountain University Science and Technology Town is where the 7 colleges and universities are located. It gathers 32 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and has 23 national innovation platforms. In the morning, Governor Mao and his team members came to the Central South University Science and Technology Park (R&D) Headquarters. They visited Xinyun.com and other companies to learn about R&D results such as transparent computing, Yunhuiyi (cloud smart medical service), and Yunzhijiao (cloud intelligent education). He emphasized that it is necessary to integrate science and technology, talents, capital, and data resources, promote the transformation of more scientific and technological achievements, and stimulate innovation potential and entrepreneurial vitality.

Governor Mao had a discussion with the responsible persons of the Management Committee of Yuelu Mountain Science and Technology Town. He said that the town should aim at the goal of “becoming the most beautiful university town, the leading science and technology town, and the first-class entrepreneurial town”. It’s important to keep studying “what is our goal; what do we have; what do we need; and, what should we do”. It should devote itself to the building of a major R&D platform, tackling problems in key and core technologies, cultivating first-class science and technology enterprises, and establishing an optimal innovation ecosystem.

In the afternoon, Governor Mao and the inspection team visited Xiangjiang Fund Town, Xiangjiang Kunpeng Industrial Park, and the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Changsha) Testing Zone. They experienced riding an unmanned intelligent connected bus. He called for accelerating scenarios application such as ICVs and intelligent equipment; cultivating new business formats such as intelligent manufacturing and modern finance; and, creating new economic growth points.

Governor Mao hosts a symposium at the Xiangjiang New Area Management Committee.

Governor Mao noted at the symposium that the national-level new area is the fruit of China’s reform and opening up. We must have the courage to build it into a national reform and opening up test field; accelerate agglomeration of advantageous industries, integration of industry and city and new-type urbanization, and improving the efficiency of resource utilization and the environmental quality; and, promote the multi-functional integration of economy, science and technology, society, and humanities. We should strive to enhance high-quality development space; provide high-quality life supply; put forward concentration of advanced elements; and, cultivate growth points for urban industries. We must make new achievements in building high-quality city; create a new model in promoting the integration of Changsha, Zhuzhou, and Xiangtan; embody new responsibilities in building the Three Highlands; and, blaze new trails for the high-quality development of the national-level new area, he added.
