A ceremony was held in the Huaihua Economic Development Zone on September 13, 2021, to mark the start of the construction of the Huaihua International Land Port. The port is located in the east of Wuyang Avenue and south of Gaoyan West Road in the zone. Its total planning area is 1,545 mu (about 103 ha.), including a southern area of 1,006 mu (about 67 ha.), which is also a western freight yard of Huaihua; and, a northern area of 539 mu (nearly 36 ha.), which is a core part of the port. The planned annual capacity of the northern area is 580,000 tons, and will reach 960,000 tons in the long term.

Nine projects will be constructed in the first phase, including a customs inspection site and a highway-railway combined freight transportation center in the southern area, and field engineering and infrastructure in the northern area. With a planned investment of 1.3 billion yuan, these projects will be completed before 2024. Upon completion, it will connect with the new western land-sea corridor, and build an international logistics channel with railway transport playing a key role and highway transport as a supporting part, and southwestward linking to marine transport.
