The photo, taken on September 12, shows the newly rebuilt Liuyang Gate at the intersection of Jiefang West Road and Jianxiang Road, Furong District, Changsha City.
Liuyang Gate is the eastern gate of old Changsha. It was built during the Five Dynasties (907-960), and got its name because it connected the courier route leading to Liuyang. The city walls and gates were torn down in the 1920s to make way for a ring road.
The first phrase of a renovation project on Changsha’s Mawang Street and Liuzheng Street areas has been completed recently. Landscapes including the Liuyang Gate were restored at their original sites. This has further improved the cultural taste of the areas. (Photos/Xu Xing, Hunan Daily)
