The Chenglingji New Port Area Songyang Lake Railway Special Line began operation on September 1, 2021, after a three-year construction. The logistics between Chenglingji Port and railway network was accelerated, and the rail and water combined transport has been achieved completely.

The Songyang Lake Railway Special Line is one of China’s 12 key projects of rail and water combined transport logistics along the Yangtze River, and also a provincial key project. It runs through Yueyanglou and Yunxi districts, links to the Huaneng Power Plant third phase, and stretches northeastward reaching until the station in the south of the New Port, between the former 201 provincial highway and Changjiang Road. The line includes 6.125 km of existing railway, and 2.457 km of newly-built one. The Chenglingji New Port hence has been interconnected with the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway.

With this 8-km-long line, the Chenglingji New Port Area can achieve integration of railway and port, operation, inspection, and information; make the rail and water combined transport mechanism more flexible; reduce logistics costs; and, cut carbon emission. It is of important significance for Yueyang to build a national port-oriented logistics hub, develop export-oriented economy, and construct “three zones and one center” – a Yangtze River Economic Belt Green Development Demonstration Zone; an advanced manufacturing cluster zone in central China; a pioneering zone of opening up in Hunan; and, a modernized provincial sub-center city.
