Hunan Athletes Win 10 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze Medals at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games came to an end on the evening of September 5, 2021. The Chinese sports delegation won a total of 96 gold, 60 silver, and 51 bronze medals, ranking the top in the gold medal list and the medal list. Hunan athletes contributed an impressive 10 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze medals. They fully demonstrated “Hunan’s Strength” in such events as track and field and shooting, making Hunan part of the Chinese sports delegation to the 16th Summer Paralympic Games. 


In the track and field competitions, 6 Hunan athletes won 8 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medals, and broke the world record for 5 times. Their contributions will be recorded in the sports history in the world.

In the women’s 100m-T35 finals, Zhou Xia broke the world record with an excellent performance of 13.00 seconds. Not only did she win the first gold medal for the track and field team of Chinese sports delegation, but also she won the first gold for Hunan delegation in this Paralympic Games. Subsequently, Wen Xiaoyan and Shi Yiting broke world records in the women's 100m and 200m competitions. In the end, Wen Xiaoyan broke 2 world records, Zhou Xia broke 2 world records, and Shi Yiting broke 1 world record, showing the world Hunan women's self-confidence, self-improvement, and courage to strive for the first place.

In the shooting arena, 4 Hunan players won 2 gold and 1 silver medals for the Chinese delegation. The number of medals accounted for half of the shooting team. Among them, Huang Xing scored 1 gold and 1 silver medals, and Yang Chao claimed 1 gold. They both successfully defended their titles and realized their dreams again.

Yang Feng, the only swimmer in Hunan province, also lived up to expectations. In the men's 100m butterfly S8 finals, he performed well and won the silver medal.

Other Hunan athletes also tried their best in the Paralympic Games. Wei Enlong and Huang Yezi achieved their personal best in the men's shot put F46 and the women's javelin F46 respectively, both wining the sixth place. Shooters Yan Yaping and Li Min also performed well in the competition.

Although the Paralympic Games have come to an end, the 11th National Paralympic Games is about to begin. After the Hunan’s athletes to the Paralympic Games return to China, most of them will be engaged in intense preparations. The journey is still going on, and they will continue to make efforts and achieve greater glory.
