On the morning of August 25, the opening and mobilizing ceremony for the construction of the Changsha West High-speed Railway Station Comprehensive Transportation Hub project was held in Wangcheng District, Changsha City. Xu Dazhe, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, announced the start of construction. Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, delivered a speech.
Xie Jianhui, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and executive vice governor of Hunan Province; and Zhang Jianfei, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and secretary general of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, attended. Wu Guiying, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee; and Wu Yong, secretary of the Party Committee and chairman of the board of the China Railway Guangzhou Group Co., Ltd., made speeches.
The Changsha West High-speed Railway Station is located at the intersection of Changsha-Yiyang-Changde High-speed Railway and Changsha-Ganzhou High-speed Railway. It is an important part of the “Xiamen-Chongqing Corridor”, one of the “eight vertical and eight horizontal” high-speed railway passages in the “Medium and Long-term Railway Network Planning”. It is also the terminal station of the west extension line of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan (CZT) Intercity Railway, and an important node station of the railway hub around the CZT City Cluster.
The comprehensive transportation hub is about 485,400 square meters, with 12 platforms and 22 lines. It is divided into two yards, including 6 high-speed railway and 6 intercity railway platforms, each with 11 lines. Meanwhile, the conditions for future expansion of general-speed railway yard with 4 platforms and 8 lines are reserved. The main body adopts the design concept of “Azaleas Blooming in Hunan”, which fully demonstrates the regional characteristics of Changsha. Based on a “cross-shaped” plane design, it takes advantage of the different heights of space to create an “azaleas-shaped” building.
It was said that the project will speed up construction with two main time nodes; namely, the “Yiyang-Changsha section of Changde-Yiyang-Changsha Railway open to traffic in June 2022” and the “Completion in 2025”. In order to meet the diversified travel needs of the people, four rail transit projects will be planned and implemented simultaneously. Upon their completion and operation, passengers can realize “one-line transfer” among Changsha South Railway Station, Changsha Railway Station, and Changsha West High-speed Railway Station.
