Hunan’s Actual Use of Foreign Investment Hit 1.3 Bln USD in First 7 Months

The Hunan Department of Commerce announced on August 18 the utilization of foreign investment in the province between January and July this year. 

In the first 7 months, Hunan has 199 new foreign-funded enterprises, increasing 48.5% year on year. Foreign investment in actual use surged 41.5% to 1.3 billion USD, with the growth rate 16 percentage points higher than the national average.

The foreign investment used in the primary industry surged rapidly. Between January and July, Hunan had 8 new foreign-funded primary industry enterprises, increasing by 300%. The paid-in foreign investment amounted to 7.95 million USD, up 573.7%. 

There were 45 newly-settled foreign-funded enterprises in the secondary industry, with a paid-in foreign investment of 230 million USD. 

In the tertiary industry, there were 146 newly-established foreign-funded enterprises, with a total actually utilized investment of 1.07 billion USD.

Industrial parks have played a key role in foreign investment utilization. In the first 7 months, 143 industrial parks at the provincial level and above had utilized foreign investment of 900 million USD, with a year-on-year growth of 86.8%. The growth rate was 45.3 percentage points higher than the provincial average. Eleven national industrial parks, including the Changsha Hi-tech Technological Development Zone and the Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone, had actually utilized foreign investment of 830 million USD, up 88.2% year on year. 

Regionally, the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan City Cluster had utilized nearly 90% of the provincial total foreign investment. The actually used foreign investment in western Hunan regions grew by 144.8%, while that in the three southern cities – Hengyang, Yongzhou, and Chenzhou – and the Dongting Lake region rose 81.4% and 45.5% respectively.
